A CALL TO ACTION AGAINST THE G7 FINANCE MINISTERS

That should be good for all of us who didn't or cannot make it to New York for the WEF.

A CALL TO ACTION AGAINST THE G7 FINANCE MINISTERS

Feb 7th, 8th & 9th, 2002
OTTAWA, & MEECH LAKE, CANADA

Global Democracy Ottawa (GDO)

(613) 237-0730

February 8th and 9th, the Finance Ministers of the G7, as well as the president of the World Bank and the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will meet in Ottawa, Ontario and Meech Lake, Quebec.

The policies imposed on developing countries by the G7 through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led directly to the recent crisis in Argentina. These policies require countries to open their economies to foreign investment. The results in Argentina were disastrous as the economy failed and people became desperate as they were forced into poverty.

In solidarity with the people of Argentina, Global Democracy Ottawa will join with others in the spirit of the Cacerolazo* to protest these meetings of the world's elite powers.

* WHAT IS A CACEROLAZO?
When hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of people get together and bang on their caceroles (pots and pans) as loudly as humanly possible, moving forward or standing still, in collective protest. The Cacerolazo has become the symbol of Argentine popular rebellion against the neoliberal order, and is fast becoming associated with the global resistance to transnational capitalism.
