Rally at the Annual General Meeting of Power Corporation of Canada Thursday, May 11

Anonyme, Lundi, Mai 8, 2006 - 16:07

Canada Tibet Committee

On May 11th, Power Corp will hold its annual general meeting in Montreal. The Board of Directors, senior management and shareholders of Power Corp –as well as the media – will attend this important meeting. This is a key opportunity for Tibetans and Tibet supporters to show their concern about Power's involvement in the controversial Tibet Railway project.

Power Corp – along with Bombardier – have partnered with the Government of China to manufacture railway cars for this project. Many Tibetans fear that this first railway to link mainland China with occupied Tibet represents the final phase in the cultural genocide of the Tibetan people.

The rally will also provide an opportunity to show support for a
shareholder's resolution by Ethical Funds of Canada that asks Power Corp to disclose how the company's management policies and practices promote and protect human rights in Tibet. The board and management of Power Corp asked its shareholders to reject the proposal. The company says "Power does not believe it could successfully elaborate a meaningful human rights policy".
With such a response, Power is blatantly ignoring their responsibility to uphold international standards of corporate social responsibility.

Please join us to speak out against the company's involvement in the Tibet railway. Please also forward this announcement on to everyone you know in the Montreal area!

When: Thursday, May 11th, 10 am

Where: Le Windsor, 1170 Peel Street, Montreal (Metro Peel)
