MONTREAL May 2nd, 2004 --- Firaz Abu Zamal a stateless Palestinian refugee has been incarcerated at Citizenship & Immigration Canada's jail in Montreal - the "Immigration Prevention Center" in Laval. Firaz, originally from Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, faces deportation from Canada to Syria on Tuesday night, back to the life of statelessness and persecution from which he fled.

The Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees in Montreal is calling for your solidarity with Firaz and participation in a MASS visit to Montreal's immigration jail in Laval, on Tuesday afternoon to protest the pending deportation of Firaz from Canada.

Only in recent days Firaz's detention in Laval and pending deportation, became known to the Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees. Currently Immigration Canada has refused to confirm their intention to deport Firaz from Canada to Firaz's legal representation or the Palestinian community in Montreal. However, they have expressed their intentions to enforce the deportation order on Tuesday evening directly to Firaz.

The case of Firaz Abu Zamal represents another stark illustration of the ongoing injustices against Palestinian refugees committed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Firaz is a stateless Palestinian who has a full medical degree, who speaks five languages, travelled to Canada with the intention of working as a doctor and now is detained and awaiting deportation from Canada.

Firaz faces a direct threat and personal danger if deported to Syria, as he refused his obligatory service as a Palestinian in the Syrian military. Firaz's incarceration in Syrian prison, is virtually a certainty if deported.

The Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees calls for your support and solidarity in the struggle against ALL Palestinian deportations from Canada!

In Solidarity,
