G20 - Teach-In

Sunday October 22, just one day before a street party and protest against the
G-20 meeting at the Sheraton Hotel (Monday, October 23, 4pm) the
Montreal-area "G-20 Welcoming Committee" presents a popular education teach-in

TEACH-IN AGAINST THE G-20
Sunday, October 22nd, noon to 8pm
1710 Beaudry (metro Beaudry)

This Sunday, just one day before a street party and protest against the
G-20 meeting at the Sheraton Hotel (Monday, October 23, 4pm) the
Montreal-area "G-20 Welcoming Committee" presents a popular education
teach-in. Workshops between noon and 5pm include:

* "What is the G-20?" by Sandra Cuffe and Evelyne Cote, members of the
G-20 Welcoming Committee

* "The IMF and the World Bank" by Pierre Beaucage, professor at the
University of Montreal

* "Plan Colombia and American Imperialism" by Massimo Panzino, formerly of
Peace Brigades International

* "Kicking Capitalism out of the Food System" by members of Food Not Lawns

* "The Colour of Resistance: Race, racism, representation and identity in
the anti-globalization movement" by members of the Montreal-area Colours
of Resistance network

* "NAFTA, the FTAA and the Summit of the Americas" by members of the
Independent Research Collective

* "The problem isn't globalization, it's capitalism" by a member of "La
Trouble" newspaper

* "Police repression and the surveillance of political dissent" by members
of Citizens Opposed to Police Brutality

and more.

The workshops will be followed by a panel discussion on the IMF and World
Bank between 5-6:30pm. Panelists include:

* Louise Boivin, member of the Anti-Capitalist Convergence, and a
participant in the anti-IMF protests in Prague

* Michel Chossudovksy, professor of economics at the University of Ottawa
and author of "The Globalization of Poverty: Impacts of IMF and World Bank
Reforms"

The teach-in will be followed by a free dinner, as well as a special "Miss
G-20 Gala" theatre presentation.

At 8pm, the G-20 Welcoming Committee will be convening a public assembly
to discuss the next day’s actions, street party and protest against the
G-20.
